World tallest cake

More than 20 chefs in China worked around the clock to bake the world’s tallest cake before it was devoured by over 3,000 hungry shoppers.

Standing at eight metres tall, the baked dessert was too large for any bakery shop window and had to be put on display in a shopping mall in Luoyang, Henan Province.

The record breaking cake set a new Guinness World Record, beating a previous attempt set in Paris in 2010 which stood at 7.8 metres.

Hundreds of onlookers came to witness the creation of the baked dessert which had to be held in place by metal plates to stop it from toppling over.

It took 24 hours to complete the marathon cake bake using a total of 500kg of eggs, 260kg of flour, 200kg of cream, 100kg of fruit and 80kg of chocolate.

Once the eight-tiered cake was carefully put in place, the group of chefs worked from metal scaffolding to decorate the gigantic treat.

The cake was a huge hit with shoppers who wolfed down the sugary delight once the record had been confirmed by Guinness officials.
