Wedding Planning Tips & Advice

From a bride on www.bellanaija.com

The bride planned her wedding herself and has some great tips for other couples intending to plan their special day. Hope this inspires you for your big day!

1. Whatever you want for your wedding or in life generally, keep confessing it out loud and it will come to pass.

2. Develop a concept book and stick to it. That way you won’t be too swayed. And ensure you insist on what you want.

3. Don’t compromise on the important things such as your make-up or photography.

4. Stop work at least 2 weeks to your wedding. I didn’t listen and ended up in hospital the week of the wedding. Got discharged the day before the engagement.

5. Ladies, involve your fiancĂ© in everything! It’s also his wedding! My fiancĂ© approved every single vendor I chose to work with, right down to the aso-ebi for friends before I bought it. What he wasn’t too impressed with, we found alternatives till we were both happy.

6. Re aso-ebi, don’t make it too expensive. And ensure you buy in bits at a time. Don’t assume your friends will buy else you get stuck with large inventory or unpaid bills. In my case, I ensured people paid in advance before I reserved their fabric. And I delivered it to them as well.

7. Once you get the vendors together, delegate responsibility to people who know exactly what you want. You cannot handle everything yourself. You will break down.

8. Don’t stress yourself out on what doesn’t matter. Don’t be a diva or a bridezilla. It’s just not worth the stress and you’ll only make people around you, including yourself, miserable. So what if the plates were not exactly 6 inches wide with perfectly square corners? Please… no-one will even notice.

9. Get your priorities straight. Your major goal should be to ensure your guests are well fed and entertained. Nothing else matters that much!

10. Don’t spend too much money on things that will end up in the bin e.g. the invitation or on things you will never wear again e.g. your wedding garments. Also ensure you buy what you can reuse. Eg. My hand bags cost about £15 each from New Look and I am still rocking them. The red tub chairs at the engagement are now part of our furniture. The picture on the stage will now grace our wall.

11. Don’t OVER-plan! When you get to a stage, just step back; let go and let God! I tied my other gele myself at the engagement and forgot to get matching earrings for the necklace. What did I do? I simply took the ones my cousin was wearing and they were perfect. Did anyone notice? Nope!

12. Always look beyond the wedding day. Ensure plans you make must have positive impacts on your marriage.

Wow.......good advice
